A late header from George Devine gave Colney Heath their first away league win of the season as a 1-0 win over Didcot Town lifted them off the bottom of the Southern League Division One Central.

In a first half of few chances, Didcot had more of the possession but Colney Heath had the better goal-scoring opportunities. Guerin Nimi had an effort cleared off the line after 3 minutes, Toby Byron's shot deflected wide just after the half hour mark and Chris Griffin blazed over just before half time.

Didcot, who started the game in seventh place, continued to see plenty of the ball in the second half. However, the final ball was often lacking and Colney Heath continued to carry a threat at the other end.

Kwon Hepburn just failed to apply a finishing touch from close range after 75 minutes, but Didcot didn't get off so lightly nine minutes later, as substitute Devine headed in after a scramble from a corner.

Josh Hedges belatedly tested the Colney Heath goalkeeper in stoppage time but that was as good as it got for Didcot, who slumped to their second straight defeat.

Colney Heath will hope to build on that win at home against mid-table Barton Rovers on Saturday. Meanwhile, Didcot will hope to stop their losing run at home to promotion-chasing Berkhamsted on Tuesday.
